According to a 2023 Harris Poll, roughly 20% of American couples have an antenuptial agreement (or a “prenup”). As prenups gain in popularity, younger generations are a driving force. Over two in five Gen Z and Millennials report signing prenups before their big day. The rise in prenups is the result of many factors. Couples are becoming more established in their careers before tying the knot, and the topic of finances is becoming less taboo in the context of romantic partnerships.

Minnesota recently made changes to its law on antenuptial and postnuptial agreements. These changes went into effect on August 1, 2024 and impact the timing of an antenuptial agreement and financial disclosures required for both antenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
